The Chicago Bears got their franchise quarterback back in Week 6, and it didn't take long for Caleb Williams to remind everyone what this offense is capable of.
Williams returned from a three-game absence and delivered one of his sharpest performances of the season, leading the Bears to a 31-23 victory over the Atlanta Falcons at Mercedes-Benz Stadium.
Chicago improved to 4-2 with the win, bouncing back from last week's embarrassing loss to the Green Bay Packers. And while the final score suggests a relatively competitive game, the Bears controlled most of the afternoon before allowing Atlanta to make things interesting in the fourth quarter.
Williams completed 30 of 36 passes for 305 yards and a touchdown, showing virtually no rust after missing three games with a hamstring injury.
Caleb Williams wastes no time making an impact
Williams couldn't have scripted a much better opening drive. He completed all six of his passes on Chicago's first possession, finishing the possession with a 14-yard touchdown strike to rookie tight end Colston Loveland.
Williams completed his first 12 passes and set the tone for an offense that looked dramatically different from the unit that struggled against Green Bay.
The Bears jumped out to a 14-0 first-quarter lead after D'Andre Swift added a 4-yard touchdown run.
Atlanta answered with a touchdown pass from Michael Penix Jr. to Jahan Dotson in the second quarter, but Swift scored again from 2 yards out to give Chicago a 21-7 halftime advantage.

Williams spread the football around throughout the game, connecting with eight different receivers. Luther Burden III was especially impressive, catching all eight of his targets for 95 yards.
Bears nearly let a blowout slip away
For much of the second half, Chicago appeared headed toward an easy win.
Roschon Johnson scored on a 4-yard touchdown run late in the third quarter, extending the Bears' lead to 28-7. A second lost fumble by Falcons returner Zachariah Branch then helped set up a 50-yard Cairo Santos field goal that pushed the advantage to 31-7.
Game over, right? Not quite.
The Falcons scored 16 unanswered points in the fourth quarter, with Penix connecting twice with tight end Kyle Pitts Sr. for touchdowns. Atlanta converted both two-point attempts, suddenly cutting Chicago's lead to 31-23.
It was an uncomfortable finish for a Bears team that outplayed Atlanta for three quarters.
Thankfully, Chicago's defense made a critical late play when Kyler Gordon forced a Penix fumble, helping keep the Falcons from completing their comeback.
The Bears eventually ran out the clock to secure their fourth victory of the season
Chicago gets the win they desperately needed
Ben Johnson will have plenty to address after watching his team nearly squander a 24-point lead. The late defensive breakdown was concerning.
But Sunday's biggest takeaway was Williams's performance.
Chicago's offense looked efficient, balanced, and dangerous with its starting quarterback back under center. Williams was decisive, accurate, and comfortable. And at 4-2, the Bears remain firmly in the mix in the NFC North.
There won't be much time to celebrate, either. Chicago returns home for a Thursday night matchup against the New England Patriots on October 22.
For now, the Bears have their quarterback back, another victory in the standings, and plenty of reasons to feel optimistic about where this offense can go. They also have a reminder that finishing games remains a work in progress.
