Richard Hightower reveals what will decide the Bears' long snapper battle
The Chicago Bears are still sorting out their long snapper position, and special teams coordinator Richard Hightower says the competition extends well beyond snapping the football. Speaking this week, Hightower outlined the traits he'll be evaluating as the battle continues through training camp and the preseason. "Yeah, what I'm looking for is a guy that can snap the ball with accuracy, give us a good, clean, deliverable ball," Hightower said. "Then somebody who can protect and know their assignments and can understand pre-snap communication, post-snap communication, can work well with the guards on both field goal and punt, and can be that glue for the other two specialists." While long snapper is one of the NFL's least-discussed positions, consistency is critical to the success of the kicking game.
