Studs and duds from the Bears' Week 11 loss to the Packers (News)

After the Chicago Bears lost to Washington on a last-second Hail Mary, many thought it would be the most heartbreaking loss of the season. Three weeks later, the Bears found a way to lose in an even worse fashion: a blocked field goal.

After a mostly so-so day, quarterback Caleb Williams nailed three guts throws on the final drive of the game to get the Bears into field goal position with a little more than 30 seconds left, trailing 20-19. Head coach Matt Eberflus made the bizarre choice to let the clock run down and call a timeout instead of gaining a few more yards for kicker Cairo Santos.

It may not have mattered anyway. The special teams' execution was awful, and multiple Packers defenders penetrated the line and blocked the field goal.

Game over.

Green Bay extended its winning streak over Chicago to eleven, and the Bears' season continues to spiral out of control.

Here are the studs and duds from Sunday's gut-wrenching loss.

Stud: Caleb Williams

Players and fans alike are sick of moral victories, but this one still counts. He wasn't great, and he still hasn't thrown a touchdown pass since Week 6, but Williams looked much better than he has in recent games. As aforementioned, he drove down the field when it mattered most and put the Bears in position to win. That's exactly what you want to see from your quarterback.

Stud: Thomas Brown

After the Bears fired offensive coordinator Shane Waldron this week, passing game coordinator Thomas Brown was given the reins of the offense. In his first outing, Brown made a good first impression. The offense seemed more cohesive and was able to drive down the field with relative ease compared to the last few weeks.

Dud: Matt Eberflus

Turns out it takes more than a carefully manicured beard to make a good head coach. So long as Matt Eberflus is coaching this team, the Bears will continue to lose every meaningful game. His football philosophies are outdated, he doesn't make good use of his challenge flag, and worst of all he coaches scared. Chicago lost in Washington largely because Eberflus gave up 15 free yards on the play before the Hail Mary. This time, he chose not to run another play or two before attempting a field goal. Why? Because he was scared of the incredibly unlikely outcome of a lost fumble.

The best time to have fired Eberflus was after last season. The second-best time would be right now.

Stud: D'Andre Swift

If you haven't already, it's time to admit that Swift was a great free-agent signing. He provided some serious juice on the ground on Sunday, including a 39-yard scamper for a touchdown in the third quarter.

Stud: Terrell Smith

In the second quarter, the Packers drove down the field, looking to turn their 7-3 lead into a 14-3 lead and, likely, begin to pull away for a blowout win. Instead, when quarterback Jordan Love overthrew his target, Smith made the interception and carried the ball out of the shadow of their goalposts. This was the game's first turning point and gave the Bears some badly needed momentum.

Dud: Defensive Line

In my keys to victory this week, I said the Bears needed to get after Jordan Love and bottle up the run. Instead, they gave Jordan Love all the time he needed to drive the ball down the field, and they gave up 4.2 yards per carry to lead back Josh Jacobs. While they were far from the main problem this week, the defensive line didn't hold up their end of the bargain.
