It’s a move that Bears fans hoped would happen this week after Chicago’s horrendous showing in a loss to the New England Patriots in Week 10. The Bears managed only three points, marking two games in a row that the offense hasn’t scored a touchdown.
The lack of points has been only part of the problem, and not even the biggest one. Rookie quarterback Caleb Williams has regressed, and Waldron is a big reason why.
The Bears will enter Week 11’s matchup against the Green Bay Packers with the second-worst offense in the NFL (31st). They rank 24th in points scored, 30th in passing offense, 31st in sacks allowed, and 24th in rushing offense.
“They’re not going to reinvent the wheel in a sense,” said Williams when rumors of Waldron’s demise were spreading. “We’re midseason. It’s not a decision for me. I have to do whatever Coach says. I have to deal with whatever decision he makes, and I have to be fine with it. Will I be able to adapt? Yes, I will. We will be able to adapt to whatever decision he makes, and then from there, we have to go out there and execute and win games.”
It was time for a change. Kudos to the Bears for making this call.
