The Chicago Bears have already made one blockbuster trade ahead of the NFL trade deadline. Could another deal be coming?
According to Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk, the Baltimore Ravens may explore acquiring Bears backup quarterback Tyson Bagent following a devastating Sunday for their quarterback room.
Baltimore lost both Lamar Jackson and Tyler Huntley to injuries during its Week 8 loss to the Buffalo Bills. Jackson is heading to injured reserve with a thumb injury that could end his season, while the severity of Huntley's toe injury remains uncertain.
That leaves the Ravens searching for answers, and Bagent has emerged as a potential target.
Why Tyson Bagent makes sense for Baltimore
There's an obvious connection between Bagent and the Ravens. Baltimore offensive coordinator Declan Doyle served in the same role with Chicago last season under Ben Johnson. His familiarity with Bagent could make the Bears quarterback an attractive option.
Florio reported Sunday night that Baltimore could inquire about a trade, although acquiring Bagent wouldn't necessarily be easy.
"We're also told that it won't be cheap to get him," Florio wrote.
Bagent is an experienced quarterback in Johnson's system and provides Chicago with insurance behind Caleb Williams. That has value, even if his brief stint as a starter during William's absence was unspectacular.
Bagent earns $4 million in 2026, which bumps to $4.25 million in 2027.
The Bears would be left with Case Keenum as their QB2. Keenum proved this year that he's more than capable of winning games in Ben Johnson's system.
Should the Bears consider trading Bagent?
Chicago enters Monday night's matchup against the Seattle Seahawks at 5-2, and are considered one of the legitimate Super Bowl contenders in the NFC.
Trading Williams' top backup would create an obvious risk in case his hamstring injury pops up again.
But general manager Ryan Poles also has to consider the potential return. Baltimore's sudden quarterback emergency could significantly increase Bagent's trade value. If the Ravens are willing to offer a meaningful draft pick (say, a second-round pick? Even a third-rounder?) Chicago would have a difficult decision.
The Bears have already demonstrated their willingness to make aggressive roster moves with last week's acquisition of All-Pro defensive tackle Jeffery Simmons. Whether that aggressiveness extends to trading Bagent remains to be seen.
For now, this is just speculation. But with the Ravens suddenly desperate for quarterback help, it's a storyline worth watching.
