The Chicago Bears received an encouraging update on quarterback Caleb Williams on Wednesday, and it could be the strongest indication yet that their franchise quarterback is nearing a return.
According to ESPN's Courtney Cronin, Williams will be listed as a full participant on Wednesday's injury report as he continues recovering from the hamstring injury that has sidelined him since Week 2.
The Bears are conducting a walkthrough Wednesday, meaning the injury report is an estimate rather than a reflection of actual full-speed practice participation. Chicago's first regular practice of the week is scheduled for Thursday.
Still, it's a significant development for Williams, who has missed the Bears' last three games.
Caleb Williams moving closer to Week 6 return
Williams' status has been one of Chicago's biggest storylines since he suffered the hamstring injury against the Minnesota Vikings in Week 2.
The Bears have remained competitive without him, but Sunday's 31-7 loss to the Green Bay Packers showed how badly the offense needs Iceman back.

Tyson Bagent struggled in his start against Green Bay before Case Keenum entered the game in the fourth quarter. Chicago's offense committed five turnovers and couldn't establish a consistent rhythm.
Earlier this week, coach Ben Johnson acknowledged that Williams was progressing but stopped short of confirming when he would return.
"He's doing a great job progressing and we'll see when we can make him available to help us win ball games," Johnson said.
Thursday's practice will be the real test
While Williams' designation is encouraging, it doesn't guarantee he'll start against Atlanta. Thursday's practice will offer a clearer indication of how his hamstring is responding.
With Chicago at 3-2 and looking to rebound from an ugly divisional loss, getting Williams back would be a major boost. For now, the news is promising: Caleb Williams is trending in the right direction, and Thursday could bring the clearest indication yet of whether he'll return in Week 6.
