This new Bears' quarterback controversy isn't about QB1. It's about QB2. And since QB2 will be the QB1 for the next couple of weeks, Johnson has to choose wisely.

Tyson Bagent cleared the concussion protocol before Monday's game and was available as Keenum's backup. The Bears chose Keenum because he got all the game prep while Bagent was sidelined.

That rationale may not apply this week. Bagent is good to go and ready to participate in a normal practice week.

Keenum, however, just led Chicago to perhaps its most impressive early-season victory in a while.

Johnson gave Keenum his flowers after the game, but declined to commit to a Week 4 starter. And that's exactly how he should handle it.

Case Keenum did more than manage the game

The Bears didn't just survive Keenum's start. They scored 27 points against a Philadelphia defense that entered Monday night undefeated.

Keenum threw touchdown passes to Luther Burden III and Kalif Raymond, converted key third downs, and repeatedly took what Philadelphia gave him. Most importantly, he didn't give the Eagles a short field.

Chicago finished with zero turnovers. Philadelphia had three.

It was the type of performance that makes it difficult to automatically send Keenum back to the bench.

Sure, it might be a wet blanket for some Bears fans who were excited to see Tyson Bagent get a short-term stint as a starter. But at the end of the day, all that matters is Chicago winning football games.

Keenum proved he can get the team across that finish line. Expect Johnson to ride this wave of momentum into Week 4 against the Jets.
