Bears release first unofficial depth chart of 2026 preseason

As always, there's an important disclaimer: the depth chart is unofficial and compiled by Bears Communications, not necessarily a direct reflection of how coach Ben Johnson and his staff currently rank every player.

Still, there are several notable takeaways.

Left tackle remains a three-man race

No surprise here.

Braxton Jones, Jedrick Wills Jr. and Kiran Amegadjie are all listed as co-starters at left tackle, with an "OR" separating each player.

That's consistent with what we've seen throughout training camp. The Bears haven't officially settled on Caleb Williams' blindside protector, and the depth chart confirms the competition remains open.

Bears list Montez Sweat and Dayo Odeyingbo as starting defensive ends

Montez Sweat and Dayo Odeyingbo occupy the top spots on the edges, while Grady Jarrett and Gervon Dexter Sr. are listed as the starting defensive tackles.

It's been long presumed that Austin Booker would get the first crack at the starting spot opposite Sweat this season. Odeyingbo is off to a good start in training camp, but it'd be a pretty big surprise if Booker isn't with the first team when Week 1 rolls around.

Secondary offers some interesting clues

Coby Bryant and rookie Dillon Thieneman are listed as Chicago's starting safeties. Xavier Woods and Josh Blackwell are behind them, respectively. Bryant is nursing an 8-10 week knee injury, which means Woods is the de facto starter in Week 1.

At cornerback, Tyrique Stevenson and Jaylon Johnson are the outside starters. Cam Lewis occupies the top spot at the Bears' "DB" position, with Jaylon Jones and Terell Smith behind him.

Kyler Gordon isn't listed on the depth chart as he continues dealing with his injury. This is worth monitoring.

There's only so much that can be taken from an unofficial preseason depth chart, especially with several weeks remaining before the regular season. But Chicago's first version provides a useful snapshot of where things stand, and makes it clear that left tackle remains the biggest position battle to settle.
