The Chicago Bears were on hand to watch superstar LSU wide receiver Malik Nabers perform at Pro Day on Wednesday. It was particularly notable since Nabers did not physically participate at the NFL Combine. Nabers reportedly ran the 40-yard dash in an unofficial 4.35 seconds. Nabers' performance may have catapulted him to the top of the Bears' wish list with the No. 9 overall selection in the 2024 NFL Draft.

Nabers' unofficial 4.35 40 would have ranked fourth among all receivers at the NFL Combine, trailing just Xavier Worthy (4.21), his teammate Brian Thomas Jr. (4.33), and Adonai Mitchell (4.34). Nabers also recorded a 42-inch vertical and 10-foot-9 broad jump, which would have ranked second and sixth among all participating receivers at the combine. Nabers possesses an elite athletic profile.

Nabers totaled 89 receptions for 1,569 yards and 14 touchdowns this past campaign. He showcased elite chemistry with Heisman-winning quarterback Jayden Daniels and would likely do the same with Caleb Williams for the Bears next season. Nabers pairs rare explosiveness with run-after-catch ability in the open field.

The Bears now roster Keenan Allen and D.J. Moore at receiver. The position still could be viewed as a long-term need considering Allen is entering his age 32 campaign. If Nabers slips to No. 9 overall, Bears general manager Ryan Poles should sprint the pick to the podium.
