The Chicago Bears are signing former Philadelphia Eagles running back D'Andre Swift to a three-year contract worth $24.5 million in free agency according to a report from Adam Schefter. Swift will receive $15.3 million in guaranteed money.
Swift is an explosive player who will transform the upside in Chicago's backfield. Check out his highlights:
The Eagles acquired Swift in a trade with the Detroit Lions. Swift took advantage of a change of scenery by rushing for a career-high 1,049 yards, marking the first time he's surpassed 1,000 rushing yards. Swift has now parlayed that performance into a lucrative contract in Chicago.
The Bears were always expected to enter the market for a running back. D'Onta Foreman played last season on an expiring contract and is now expected to sign elsewhere. Foreman averaged a team-high 12.1 carries per game despite making just nine regular-season appearances. That workload will now be replaced by Swift.
Bears general manager Ryan Poles was clearly impressed with Swift. Swift will lead a Bears backfield in 2024 that will also feature Khalil Herbert and Roschon Johnson. Additional free agency dealings around the league will make an impact, but the Bears just made Swift a top-20 paid running on annual average basis.
