Jeffery Simmons wasted little time making an impact with the Chicago Bears. But according to Caleb Williams, the All-Pro defensive tackle's most impressive moment Monday night might have happened after the game ended.
Speaking to reporters Wednesday, Williams revealed that Simmons took it upon himself to clean up the Bears' locker room following their 34-17 victory over the Seattle Seahawks.
"But one of the first things he does after the game is cleaning up," Williams said. "He's an All-Pro guy, he's a this and that. I mean, he could walk out and nobody say anything. Nobody would pay any mind. And he's cleaning up the whole locker room, offense and defensive side."
It's just more proof that Simmons is, in a word, different.
Simmons delivered on the field, recording six tackles and a sack in his Bears debut. His presence immediately elevated Chicago's defensive front, as shown by Montez Sweat, who looked more explosive than he has in the last two seasons.
But Williams believes Simmons' influence will extend well beyond his production on Sundays.
"That's who he is, and we’re happy we have him on our side. It's going to help the guys. I truly think he's going to lead those guys and make those guys better. I think that Monday was a first example of it.”
For a Bears team with Super Bowl aspirations, Simmons brings more than elite defensive talent. He brings the kind of leadership that transforms a good locker room into a championship-caliber one.
And if his first few days in Chicago are any indication, Simmons is already making his presence felt in ways that won't appear in a box score.
