Caleb Williams could be approaching the type of contract conversation Chicago Bears fans have almost never experienced with one of their own quarterbacks. But money isn't what Williams says he's thinking about.
As the Bears prepare to begin the 2026 season, Williams made his priorities clear this week: win in Chicago and, ideally, never play anywhere else.
"Money's not a motivating factor for me in that sense," Williams said. "If I wanted to be done today, I'd be fine. If I wanted to be done and go somewhere and disappear for a long time and never come back and y'all would never see me again, I'd be OK. That's not my motivation.
"Winning, winning, winning handles everything... so that's where my mind's at."
That's exactly what Bears fans should want to hear from their franchise quarterback entering one of the most important seasons of his career.

Williams isn't just talking about winning in Chicago for the next few seasons. His vision is much bigger than that.
"I obviously want to be here forever," Williams said. "That's a goal of mine: to be at one place until I'm done, until I decide that it's over for me and I want to go home and ride off into the sun... I'll be here."
It's a remarkable statement considering where the conversation surrounding Williams and the Bears began.
Before Chicago selected him No. 1 overall in 2024, there were endless questions about whether Williams even wanted to play for the Bears. Two years later, he's talking about spending his entire career in Chicago.
More importantly, Williams has already helped change expectations surrounding the franchise.
The Bears went 11-6 and won the NFC North in Ben Johnson's first season as coach. Williams set Chicago's single-season passing record with 3,942 yards and helped deliver the franchise's first playoff victory in 15 years.
There are still areas where Williams must improve. His 58.1% completion percentage was among the worst in the NFL, and Johnson has consistently pushed him to become more precise with his footwork, reads, and accuracy.
But Williams' trajectory has created a possibility Bears fans have waited decades to experience: A homegrown quarterback worthy of a massive second contract.
Williams' contract comments could be significant for Bears
Williams won't be eligible for an extension until after the 2026 season, so there's plenty of football to be played before contract negotiations become the Bears' biggest story. Still, his comments are noteworthy.
Williams said that when the time eventually comes to discuss his next deal, maintaining Chicago's ability to build a winning roster will matter to him.
"The most important thing is being able to make sure when I do get my contract that we can keep winning, that we can keep progressing as a team," Williams said.
That doesn't mean Williams has promised the Bears a hometown discount, and it would be premature to assume he'll eventually sign a below-market contract. What it does tell us is what Williams wants his career to be about.
He wants to win.
