Chicago Bears cornerback Kyler Gordon missed his eighth practice of training camp Thursday as he continues to recover from a soft-tissue injury, and head coach Ben Johnson still doesn't have a timetable for his return.

"There is no update. He's continuing to rehab," Johnson said.

Gordon signed a three-year, $40 million extension in April, but injuries have continued to overshadow his availability. After appearing in just three games during the 2025 season because of multiple injured reserve stints related to hamstring, groin, and calf strains, his latest absence is becoming an increasingly concerning storyline.

Bears need all hands on deck in secondary

The Bears' secondary has already taken a significant hit following safety Coby Bryant's knee injury during the first week of training camp. Bryant is expected to miss 8-10 weeks, although Johnson said Thursday the team is still gathering information before settling on a firm recovery timeline.

With Bryant sidelined, Gordon's importance to Chicago's defense has only grown. The Bears need him back on the field sooner rather than later. If injuries continue to keep him unavailable, a contract that once looked like a smart investment could quickly become one of Ryan Poles' most disappointing personnel decisions.
