Dillon Thieneman Reveals Why He’s Ready to Make Immediate Impact with Bears
Dillon Thieneman explained how his transition to Oregon prepared him for the NFL, and why he’s ready to contribute right away for the Chicago Bears.
The Chicago Bears didn’t just draft Dillon Thieneman for what he can become; they drafted him for how quickly he can contribute. And if his introductory press conference at Halas Hall is any indication, the transition to the NFL won't be too big for him.
Thieneman made it clear on Friday that he’s already been through a version of this adjustment before.
“I feel like making the leap to Oregon was kind of preparing me for the next level already; going to a new place, new coaches, new scheme, new environment,” he said. “So, I'm kind of used to that change and how to make it and what works for me and what doesn't. I'm able to grow from that last experience and hit the ground running.”

Dillon Thieneman Equipped to Handle Steep NFL Learning Curve
Scouting departments always look for an edge when projecting how players will transition to the pros, and Thieneman's proven ability to make such a strong adjustment from Purdue to Oregon was a testament to his ability to handle a challenging change.
One of the biggest concerns with rookie defensive backs is how quickly they can process the pro game. There's new terminology, new responsibilities, and the game is much faster.
It’s a lot.
But Dillon Thieneman is framing that challenge as something he’s already handled, not something he has to figure out from scratch.
Remember: The Chicago Bears expect Thieneman to start right away. His learning curve will be much shorter than most rookies.

Chicago’s defense is trending toward speed, versatility, and aggressive downhill play from the secondary. Thieneman’s experience adapting to a new system at Oregon suggests he won’t be overwhelmed by the mental side of the game, which is often what delays young safeties from seeing the field early.

There’s also a clear connection between Thieneman and the Bears that goes beyond scheme fit.
“At the combine, I had a formal [interview] with them that went really well,” he said. “I feel I really connected with all the guys there. I hadn't talked to them too much [recently], but I knew that they had a lot of interest in me.”
Now, he steps into a situation where opportunity is there for the taking. If his words match his play speed and instincts, the Chicago Bears may not have to wait long to see a return on their first-round investment.
