Kevin Byard Makes Bold Claim About Chicago Bears QB Caleb Williams

Former Bears safety Kevin Byard praises Caleb Williams’ talent and predicts a superstar future for Chicago’s young quarterback.

It’s one thing for coaches and teammates to hype up a young quarterback. It’s another when that praise comes from an All-Pro veteran who’s seen it done at the highest level.

Former Chicago Bears safety Kevin Byard didn’t hold back when discussing quarterback Caleb Williams, and the message was clear: Williams isn’t just a promising player. He's a rare one.

Byard has played alongside and against high-level quarterbacks throughout his career. That’s what makes his evaluation of Williams mean even more.

“I've been around some really good quarterbacks, and he's the most talented quarterback I've ever played with,” Byard said on Jordan Schultz's podcast. “He's probably the most talented quarterback I've seen with my own eyes as far as the arm talent. The escapability outside the pocket.”

Bears fans know the feeling. Williams is unquestionably the best quarterback Chicago has ever seen, too.

In just his second year in the league, Williams rewrote the Bears' franchise record books. He set the single-season passing record with 3,942 passing yards, topping Erik Kramer's record that stood for 30 years.

What Separates Caleb Williams From Other Quarterbacks

Byard pointed to traits that don’t always show up in a box score but define elite quarterbacks.

“When he moves on the run, he's more accurate than he is when he isn't [moving],” Byard added.

That combination — arm talent, mobility, and accuracy outside structure — is what separates good quarterbacks from franchise-changing ones.

It’s also what makes Williams so difficult to defend. Plays don’t break down when he leaves the pocket. They often become more dangerous.

Caleb Williams' Ceiling Changes Expectations

Byard didn’t stop at evaluating talent. He went further, projecting where Williams and the Chicago Bears could be headed.

“I expect him to be one of the top two or three quarterbacks in the league for a long time. I think he's got some Super Bowls in his sights, as well.”

That’s the kind of statement that raises expectations across an entire organization. And it makes you wonder why Byard isn't still a Bear.

What This Means for Chicago

For the Bears, everything centers on whether Williams can reach that level.

The roster is being shaped around him. The offense is being built to maximize him. The timeline of this team is tied directly to his development.

The early signs and comments like Byard’s suggest Chicago is on the right track. Because when an All-Pro veteran who’s seen the position up close says a quarterback has the kind of ceiling Williams does, it's more than just hype. It's belief.
