The Chicago Bears have been hit with a stunning development at the center position.

According to Adam Schefter, Bears Pro Bowl center Drew Dalman has informed the team that he is retiring from the NFL at age 27.

"ESPN sources: Bears Pro Bowl center Drew Dalman has informed the team that he is retiring from the NFL at age 27," Schefter tweeted. "Dalman left Stanford in 2021, and after four seasons in Atlanta and one in Chicago, he has made the sudden and surprising decision to retire."

The decision comes as a major shock given Dalman’s age and recent performance level.

Chicago Bears Have A Sudden Vacancy at Center

Dalman spent four seasons with the Atlanta Falcons before joining the Chicago Bears and earning Pro Bowl recognition in 2025. His intelligence, mobility, and command at the line of scrimmage made him a stabilizing force for the Bears’ offense.

At just 27 years old, Dalman was widely viewed as a long-term piece of Chicago’s offensive line. He ended his first season with the Bears with a 72.6 Pro Football Focus grade, the third-best among all centers.

Center is one of the most communication-heavy positions in football, especially for a young quarterback like Caleb Williams entering a critical Year 3. Replacing that leadership and chemistry will not be simple.

What Drew Dalman's Retirement Means for the Chicago Bears

The Bears now face an unexpected hole in the middle of their offensive line.

Dalman’s retirement reshapes Chicago’s offseason priorities overnight.

According to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport, the Bears are already looking for a replacement. They are hosting free agent center Tyler Biadasz on a visit this week.

The timing of Drew Dalman's retirement complicates matters. With free agency approaching and roster-building decisions already underway, the Bears must now adjust their strategy without one of their most important offensive linemen.

For now, the NFL is left processing a surprising retirement, and Chicago is left searching for answers at center.
