Bears sign veteran DB to bolster depth after injuries
The Chicago Bears are adding some valuable experience and versatility to their banged-up secondary, per multiple reports.
The Chicago Bears are adding some experience to their defensive backfield this week, signing veteran Chauncey Gardner-Johnson to their active roster, per multiple reports.
Gardner-Johnson is reuniting with Bears defensive coordinator Dennis Allen, who was his head coach with the New Orleans Saints:
The Bears are dealing with multiple injuries in their secondary, having placed Kyler Gordon on injured reserve following a brief return to the lineup. Tyrique Stevenson is also dealing with a shoulder injury, leaving the entire position group with too many question marks heading into the back half of the regular season.
Gardner-Johnson brings valuable experience in Allen's system, and the versatility to line up at safety or in the nickel/slot position.
Coming off a disappointing loss the a Lamar Jackson-less Baltimore Ravens team last week, the Bears will be hoping Gardner-Johnson increases their chances of a bounce-back win against the Cincinnati Bengals in Week 9.
