Chicago Bears quarterback Caleb Williams met with reporters at Halas Hall on Tuesday, one day before the team kicks off its first 2025 training camp practice.

Williams shared a lofty set of goals for his second season in the league, one of which, if accomplished, would finally erase one of the most embarrassing not-so-fun facts about the team.

“Obviously, I have self-goals,” Williams said. “And that’s being the first 4,000-yard passer in Bears history. That’s a goal of mine. 70% completion; that helps the team, keep us on the field, puts us in better positions. And other than that, just trying to go down and score the most points that we can with these drives that we have.

“That’s kind of my self-goal. And obviously, other than that, you got to go win. That’s success for me, that’s success for the team, that’s all that we wish for and all that I wish for.”

Caleb Williams should have little trouble reaching 4,000 passing yards

I don’t want to jinx a franchise that’s never had a 4,000-yard passer, but it certainly feels like it would be a massive disappointment if Williams doesn’t reach the 4K mark in 2025.

Armed with Ben Johnson calling plays and a bundle of pass catchers that includes DJ Moore, Rome Odunze, Luther Burden, Colston Loveland, and Cole Kmet, anything less than 4,000 passing yards would be shocking.

Remember: Quarterbacks only have to average 233 passing yards per game in a 17-game schedule to reach 4,000 yards. That’s… not a lot.

Williams said Johnson had him do some homework during his time away as well.

“Some was the footwork,” Williams said, “then some left short throws in OTAs that I was missing.”

Despite a 2024 rookie season that some analysts have called a disappointment, Caleb Williams appears as confident as ever. You’d think he was coming off of a Rookie of the Year campaign. It’s likely the Ben Johnson effect (as well as having an entirely new offensive line). And that’s great news for Chicago Bears fans.

“We’re in a great place,” Ben Johnson said of his relationship with Williams. “He wants to get coached hard, and we’re going to push him as hard as we can and do what’s right for the team.”
