Can Bears defense force more turnovers this season?
The Chicago Bears defense wants to create even more turnovers in 2024
The Chicago Bears concluded the 2023 season +3 in turnovers. This was good enough for an 11th-place finish across the entire league despite winning just seven games. The secondary was particularly impressive, totaling an NFL-high 22 interceptions.
Nickel cornerback Kyler Gordon wants the 2024 Bears defense to take another step forward. Internal competition is already taking shape throughout training camp. Speaking with the media following Tuesday's practice, Gordon said the defense is holding a competition regarding which players can force more turnovers.
"We definitely compete to see who is going to have the most turnovers, who is going to have the most PBUs (pass breakups)," Gordon said. "It is always a constant competition who is going to make the next play. As you see, our defense has a lot of energy, so it would be from the left corner to the right corner to the "Mike" (middle linebacker) to the D-linemen. It just bounces all over."
Coach Washington coached a Bills defense that was outstanding in the turnover department last season. He's now inheriting a hungry Bears defense that also captured fantastic results. Most importantly, Washington will be pleased to hear that his talented defenders are self-motivated.
