The Chicago Bears executed a blockbuster earlier this offseason when they acquired six-time Pro Bowl wide receiver Keenan Allen from the Los Angeles Chargers in exchange for a fourth-round pick in the 2024 NFL Draft. Attention immediately shifted to Allen's contract status with the Bears. He has one year remaining on a previously signed four-year, $80 million deal.

Allen is obviously looking to sign an extension with the Bears. He's slated to earn a base salary of $18.1 million in 2024 with just $5 million in guarantees, according to OverTheCap. It's precisely why Bleacher Report recently named Allen as the Bears' most important looming contract extension.

"GM Ryan Poles did an excellent job in adding offensive talent this offseason," Ryan Fowler wrote. "From drafting QB Caleb Williams and WR Rome Odunze in the top ten, to adding Keenan Allen from the Los Angeles Chargers, Poles deserves a tip of the cap.

Allen, while 31 years old, can still get it done on the outside. While he'll be the elder statesmen of the Bears" receiving core this fall, extending him would present the Bears with years of a trio that could be the best in football. Considering an extension also remains on the horizon for D.J. Moore (UFA following next year), utilizing the $21.6 million in current cap to lock up Allen would be wise of Poles."
