Caleb Williams dubbed Bears’ player to root for in 2024
Chicago Bears QB Caleb Williams was dubbed the team’s player to root for this season by NFL.com
Chicago Bears fans won’t have any trouble rooting for quarterback Caleb Williams this season. He’s the chosen one, the answer to their prayers. He’s the guy who will finally break the quarterback curse in Chicago after failed attempts by Jay Cutler, Mitch Trubisky, and Justin Fields. Williams… he’s the one. And the cheers from the stands at Soldier Field will be as loud for him as any player since Walter Payton.
But it won’t only be Bears fans who are cheering for Williams. The first overall pick of the 2024 NFL draft was named Chicago’s “player to root for” by NFL.com, which would be a nice change of pace: a Bears quarterback everyone wants to succeed.
“Have a heart, put up the claw and root for the new face of the franchise in Chicago,” Dan Parr wrote. “Bears quarterbacks in the Super Bowl era rank dead last in completion percentage, pass yards per attempt, passing yards per game and TD-to-INT ratio. If those numbers aren’t depressing enough for you, allow me to plunge you further into the depths of despair: The Bears are the only current NFL team to never have a QB throw for 4,000-plus yards or 30-plus pass TDs in a single season. This is a level of quarterbacking inferiority that knows no equal in the league. So, let’s root for the No. 1 overall pick to get off to a strong start and bring some relief to fans who have suffered enough.”
Finally, a campaign we all support this time of year. Let’s rally behind Caleb Williams being the guy who changes the narrative about Bears quarterbacks. He’s easy to root for, too. He’s lighthearted, compassionate, and driven. The Bears couldn’t ask for a better “face of the franchise.”
There’s no limit on how much love Williams will receive if he thrives in Chicago. Hopefully, it’ll extend beyond Bears fans, too.
