The Chicago Bears are hosting Texas Longhorns wide receiver prospect Xavier Worthy at Halas Hall on a pre-draft visit. The visit is occurring on Monday according to a report from Kevin Fishbain. Worthy joins Ohio State wide receiver Marvin Harrison Jr. and UCLA EDGE Laiatu Latu on the list of exciting prospects visiting the Bears on Monday.
Where the Bears would potentially target Worthy in the 2024 NFL Draft remains a mystery. Worthy undeniably elevated his pre-draft stock by running an all-time record-setting 4.21 40 at the NFL Combine. Despite that eye-popping result, No. 9 would qualify as rich for Worthy, and the Bears aren't scheduled to draft again until No. 75. Worthy will be long gone by then. Perhaps Worthy becomes a realistic option if Ryan Poles trades down from No. 9 to accumulate additional draft-weekend capital.
Worthy posted 75 receptions for 1,014 yards and five touchdowns this past season. Worthy was an explosive vertical target in a high-scoring Longhorns offense. Difference-making speed to take the top off opposing defenses is present.
Poles is preparing to surround soon-to-be franchise quarterback Caleb Williams with an impressive supporting cast. D.J. Moore and Keenan Allen should form an elite one-two punch at receiver for Williams. Adding Worthy's speed to three-receiver sets would force opposing defenses to cover every blade of grass.
