The Chicago Bears are hosting LSU wide receiver prospect Malik Nabers at Halas Hall on a pre-draft visit. The visit will occur later this week on Wednesday according to a report from Ian Rapoport. Nabers is a potential candidate for Bears general manager Ryan Poles to select with the No. 9 overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft.
Nabers recorded 89 receptions for 1,569 yards and 14 touchdowns throughout a career-best 2023 campaign. Explosiveness, acceleration, and play strength are at the forefront of Nabers' skill set. Nabers is an open-field threat to create post-catch yardage for himself.
Nabers declined an opportunity to physically perform at the NFL Combine, but he posted elite testing numbers at LSU’s Pro Day. Nabers ran the 40-yard dash in 4.35 seconds. He also leaped a 42 inch vertical, drawing comparisons to former LSU receiver Ja'Marr Chase. Nabers is an elite receiver prospect that has clearly captured the Bears’ attention throughout the pre-draft process.
The Bears arguably have a need at the position despite rostering D.J. Moore and Keenan Allen. Allen is entering a contract year and has yet to officially sign an extension. There's also longevity questions with Allen given his advancing age. Nabers would be a prime candidate for the No. 9 selection if he remains available.
