Adam Schefter says belief around NFL is that Bears will draft Caleb Williams (NFL Draft)

The belief around the NFL is that the Chicago Bears will select Caleb Williams with the first pick in the 2024 NFL Draft, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter, who appeared on the Pat McAfee Show on Monday.

“There are a few issues with this," Schefter said. "Number one, are the Bears going to be willing to move on from taking Caleb Williams, which I believe seems to be the widespread consensus around the league: that Caleb Williams will be the No. 1 pick. And if they ARE willing to move on from him, then you have to like Drake Maye or Jayden Daniels enough — or Justin Fields.

“But again, the feeling around the league seems to be that they’ll wind up trading Justin. Whether or not they do, we’ll see, but that seems to be the feeling.”

This matches what I heard throughout the week in Mobile, Alabama, at the 2024 Senior Bowl, which is where the pro-Caleb Williams narrative really started taking hold.

Caleb Williams began the 2023 college football season as a quarterback prospect that teams would consider tanking for. He was that highly thought of. And while his college career didn't end the way he would've liked, some of the negative commentary surrounding Williams is the result of paralysis by analysis.

Williams has been the projected No. 1 pick of the 2024 NFL Draft since basically his freshman season at Oklahoma. Of course, draft analysts and NFL media will get bored of him. And that's the only reason we are where we are right now.

Caleb Williams will be the first pick, whether the Chicago Bears keep it or not. And as Adam Schefter noted Monday, it's beginning to look like Williams will call Chicago home.
