The Chicago Bears aren't firing coach Matt Eberflus, according to ESPN insider Adam Schefter.

News of Eberflus officially returning in 2024 came just moments after the team parted ways with offensive coordinator Luke Getsy and quarterback coach Andrew Janocko.

Matt Eberflus built momentum toward a return with a strong finish to the 2023 season. The Bears won five of their final eight games after beginning the year 0-4. He was instrumental in turning around the Bears' defense, which finished No. 1 in the NFL against the run, No. 2 in rushing touchdowns allowed, and No. 1 in interceptions.

According to NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport, Eberflus will remain the defensive play-caller.

Still, a large contingent of Chicago Bears fans will be unhappy with the decision to bring Eberflus back. Jim Harbaugh was the preferred option for those fans wanting change, but there's no denying Eberflus did a solid job getting the Bears on a winning track during his second season on the job.

Eberflus is 10-24 over two seasons as head coach of the Chicago Bears.
