Chicago Bears release QB Trevor Siemian

Chicago Bears Free Agency: The Bears released quarterback Trevor Siemian Thursday after signing PJ Walker to serve as their backup QB in 2023

When the Chicago Bears announced the signing of quarterback PJ Walker, it felt like a foregone conclusion that Trevor Siemian's days as a Bear were numbered.

No one would've guessed he'd be gone this fast, though.

The Chicago Bears announced Thursday that they released Siemian just hours after making the Walker signing official.

Siemian started one game for the Bears in 2022, completing 15-of-26 passes for 157 yards with one touchdown and an interception.

Trevor Siemian served as a quality backup for Justin Fields' first season as the Bears' unquestioned starter, more for his role as a mentor than an actual player. Now that Fields has matured into the Chicago Bears' franchise quarterback, PJ Walker's skill set as a potential injury replacement makes more sense for the offense.

Walker signed a two-year deal with the Bears Thursday.
