Chicago Bears Linked to Explosive DT in Early 2027 NFL Mock Draft
The Chicago Bears may already have their eyes on the future of the defensive line, at least according to ESPN NFL Draft analyst Jordan Reid’s latest 2027 NFL mock draft.
Reid projects Miami defensive tackle Ahmad Moten Sr. to Chicago, a pick that feels rooted in both present roster construction and long-term planning.
After the Bears’ 2026 NFL Draft came and went without a significant investment along the interior defensive line until Day 3, it’s a position that remains firmly on the radar heading into next offseason.
"Moten is an explosive disruptor who finished with nine tackles for loss and 4.5 sacks last season," Reid wrote. "He has quick and powerful hands to swipe away interior blockers and is a stout run defender who can stand his ground in gaps. Moten needs to play with better pad level, as his aggressiveness can cause him to play high and be pushed out of position, but he could be the Grady Jarrett heir apparent in Chicago."
What makes this projection especially interesting is the long-term implication. Veteran presence along the interior has been a priority for Chicago. Moten, in Reid’s view, could eventually develop into Jarrett’s successor: a high-energy run defender who can anchor against double teams while still offering pass-rush upside.
There are areas to clean up. Moten’s pad level can rise too often, and when it does, he risks getting displaced by stronger interior linemen. But that’s a coachable issue, and his baseline traits — power, burst, and play strength — give him a high developmental ceiling.
For the Chicago Bears, this is exactly the kind of forward-thinking projection that makes sense. If 2026 was about building around the secondary and adding more to the offense, 2027 could be about reinforcing the trenches again, and Moten fits that blueprint.
