NFL Redraft Sends Clear Message About Bears’ Colston Loveland Pick in 2025
A new 2025 NFL redraft by The Athletic doubles down on the Bears’ decision to draft Colston Loveland in last year's first round.
The Chicago Bears drafted Colston Loveland in the first round of the 2025 NFL Draft.
One year later, they would not change a thing.
In The Athletic’s latest 2025 NFL redraft, Chicago keeps Loveland at No. 10 overall. The decision feels easy and obvious.
“This was my favorite pick of Round 1 last spring, and it remains so today,” Nick Baumgardner wrote. “An absolutely perfect fit for Ben Johnson and Caleb Williams, Loveland is built for the modern game. He is among the best tight ends we’ve scouted over the last five years.”
The Bears got it right.
Colston Loveland Was the Perfect Pick

Loveland fit Chicago’s offense from the start. His size, route running, and versatility match exactly what Ben Johnson wants to do schematically and what Caleb Williams needs over the middle of the field.

Loveland’s late-season surge in 2025 changed the narrative around his rookie year and set the stage for a potential breakout in 2026. The Bears no longer hope he becomes a top-tier tight end. They have already seen it.
Loveland's impressive rookie season ended with 58 catches for 713 yards and six touchdowns. He recorded eight catches for 137 yards in the Bears' playoff win over the Green Bay Packers.
