The Chicago Bears may have landed more than just an offensive cornerstone in Colston Loveland.

They may have found one of the most valuable assets in fantasy football.

According to ESPN’s latest 2026 rankings, Loveland enters the season as the No. 3 tight end in fantasy football. That kind of ranking is not handed out lightly. It reflects what he became late in his rookie year and what evaluators expect moving forward.

Loveland’s rookie season started quietly.

As ESPN's Mike Clay noted, through his first 14 NFL games, Loveland averaged just 4.1 targets and 8.5 fantasy points per game. It was production that raised questions about whether the Bears made the right first-round choice.

Then the usage changed.

Over his final four games of 2025, including the playoffs, Loveland averaged 12 targets and 20 fantasy points per game. He saw at least 10 targets in each of those contests, a rare stretch for any tight end, especially a rookie.

That kind of volume does not happen by accident. It reflects trust from both the coaching staff and Caleb Williams, and it signals a clear shift in the offense.

Loveland ended his rookie season with 58 catches for 713 yards and six touchdowns.

Volume creates opportunity, but efficiency sustains elite output.

Loveland delivered in both areas.

He ranked inside the top eight among tight ends in yards per reception, yards per target, and yards per route run. Those metrics separate role players from true difference-makers.

Loveland produced like both.

The Bears’ offensive structure points to an even larger role ahead for Loveland.

“With DJ Moore gone, the 2025 first-round pick enters his age-22 season all but locked into a massive workload alongside Rome Odunze and Luther Burden III,” ESPN’s Mike Clay wrote. “Loveland's ceiling is lofty, and midrange fantasy TE1 should be his floor.”

Loveland is no longer fighting for targets. He is positioned to command them in an offense built around Caleb Williams and an explosive passing game.

Ceiling, Floor, and What Comes Next for Colston Loveland

ESPN’s projection for Loveland highlights both ends of the spectrum.

His ceiling places him among the best tight ends in football. His floor already sits in the TE1 range, which speaks to his consistency and role in the offense.

That is a rare combination for a second-year player.

The Bears’ Bottom Line

Loveland did not just flash late in his rookie season. He changed expectations.

If that late-season usage carries into a full 2026 schedule, the Bears will have more than a rising offensive weapon. They will have one of the most productive tight ends in the league.

And fantasy football managers are taking notice.
