Bears Load Up on Defense in ESPN Experts 2026 NFL Mock Draft
ESPN’s latest mock draft has the Chicago Bears targeting defense early while adding a key offensive weapon on Day 2 of the 2026 NFL Draft.
The Chicago Bears didn’t just check boxes in ESPN’s latest experts' mock draft. They attacked the roster the way Bears fans expect they will during the 2026 NFL Draft.
The mock draft exercise included picks made by Mel Kiper Jr., Field Yates, Matt Miller, and Jordan Reid, with Kiper and Yates making all four of the Bears' selections in the first three rounds.
Kiper Jr. and Yates mapped out a four-pick haul for Chicago that leans heavily into defensive speed and physicality, with one key offensive addition to balance things out.
Round 1: Peter Woods Brings Interior Disruption

With the 25th pick, Mel Kiper Jr. sends Clemson defensive lineman Peter Woods to Chicago.
It's a pick that feels like a natural first-round fit.
Woods profiles as a penetrating three-technique, the kind of interior presence the Bears have been missing. At his best, he can collapse the pocket and create problems in the run game, which directly addresses a major issue from 2025.
Chicago allowed 5.0 yards per carry in 2025, one of the worst marks in the league, and finished with just 35 sacks. Adding disruption up the middle is one of the fastest ways to fix both.
This is a classic best player meets biggest need scenario, and the pairing of Woods with Gervon Dexter could give the Bears a fantastic 1-2 punch on their defensive line for years to come.
Round 2: Dani Dennis-Sutton Adds Edge Juice

Kiper doubles down on the defensive front in Round 2 with Penn State edge rusher Dani Dennis-Sutton.
Dennis-Sutton recorded 17 sacks over the past two seasons and flashed traits that make him one of the most appealing pass rushers in the 2026 draft class. His consistent pressure is exactly what the Bears need opposite Montez Sweat.
If Woods helps from the inside, Dennis-Sutton brings the speed and power off the edge.

Together, that’s a clear attempt to reshape the defensive front for coordinator Dennis Allen. You'd have a hard time finding a Bears fan who wouldn't be thrilled with this early haul.
Round 2 (From Buffalo): Kyle Louis Adds Speed and Flexibility

With pick No. 60, Field Yates targets versatility by selecting Pittsburgh linebacker/safety Kyle Louis.
Louis is the type of hybrid defender who fits with the Chicago Bears' defense.
He can line up at linebacker or safety, and more importantly, he brings speed. That’s been a clear point of emphasis for Chicago this offseason, especially on defense.
Adding a player who can move across positions gives Allen more flexibility with alignments and matchups. Much like Ben Johnson wants different plays to look the same, and the same plays to look different on offense, Allen could do something similar on defense with a player like Louis in his arsenal.
Round 3: Antonio Williams Helps Replace Lost Production

Chicago finally turns to offense at pick No. 89.
Kiper selects Clemson wide receiver Antonio Williams, a move that reflects the need for more pass-catching depth after moving on from DJ Moore.
Williams scored 11 touchdowns in 2024, which proved he has a playmaker's upside. However, his regression to just four touchdowns in 2025 has his draft stock in flux.
For Caleb Williams, adding another young target only strengthens a receiving group that continues to evolve.
The Bigger Picture for the Bears in the 2026 NFL Draft

This mock draft follows a clear theme that's been a focal point for GM Ryan Poles: Fix the defense first.
The Bears used three of their first four picks on that side of the ball, focusing on:
- Interior disruption
- Edge pressure
- Speed and versatility on the second and third level
That approach makes sense given where Chicago's roster stands today.
At the same time, they didn’t ignore the offense. Adding a receiver on Day 2 keeps the unit balanced and supports their young quarterback.
The Bears' Bottom Line

This is what a focused Chicago Bears 2026 draft class could look like.
The Bears addressed real weaknesses without reaching, added athleticism to the defense, and gave their offense another weapon.
If something close to this unfolds in April, Bears fans will be thrilled.
