Devin Bush Says Bears’ Championship Aspirations Drew Him to Chicago
New Chicago Bears linebacker Devin Bush says the team’s championship aspirations were a major reason he signed in free agency and expects to contribute immediately.
The Chicago Bears didn’t just add talent when they signed Devin Bush in free agency. They added a veteran who believes the team is ready to compete for something bigger.
Speaking during his introductory press conference on Thursday, Bush made it clear that Chicago’s trajectory played a major role in his decision to sign with the team.
After reviving his career with a strong 2025 season, the veteran linebacker said he wanted to join a team with legitimate championship ambitions.
“I want to be a part of it. Big reason why I signed here,” Bush said. “So, I’m coming in ready to work. There’s not going to be no drop off. There’s not going to be no adjustment period. I’m going to come in here (for) Year 8, I’m going to be expected to come in and learn the playbook and produce.”
For a Bears team coming off an NFC North championship season, that mindset fits exactly what the organization is trying to build.
Devin Bush Ready to Contribute Immediately
Bush enters his eighth NFL season with the expectation that he’ll step into the role left behind by Tremaine Edmunds.
The former first-round pick spent the last two seasons rebuilding his career, most recently delivering an impressive campaign with the Cleveland Browns. His performance reestablished him as one of the more productive linebackers available in free agency.
Bush set a career-high with 125 tackles last season. His three interceptions were also a career best. And let's not overlook his two defensive touchdowns, the first two of his NFL tenure.
Chicago moved quickly to secure him on a three-year contract, believing his speed and range can help anchor the middle of the defense.
Why the Bears Believe Bush Fits Their Defense
The Bears have made it clear this offseason that they want a faster, more aggressive defense.
Bush’s playing style aligns with that vision.
Defensive coordinator Dennis Allen values players who can stay on the field in multiple situations, from stopping the run to covering tight ends and running backs.
Bush’s versatility gives the Bears exactly that kind of option.
A Chicago Bears Team With Bigger Goals
Chicago’s offseason approach has reflected a team trying to build on momentum rather than start from scratch.
After winning the NFC North in 2025, the Bears entered free agency looking to reinforce the roster without dramatically altering its core.
Moves like signing Bush, along with additions such as Coby Bryant and Neville Gallimore, show the organization’s focus on long-term success while maintaining the identity that fueled last year’s momentum.
Bush knows he has an opportunity to finish his career as a winner. His comments suggest he sees Chicago not just as another stop on his NFL journey, but as a team positioned to compete for a Super Bowl.
