Chicago Bears 2026 Mock Draft Continues Defense-First Offseason Strategy

A new Chicago Bears mock draft leans heavily toward defense, projecting three defenders in the first three rounds before adding offensive line depth.

The Chicago Bears have spent the early portion of the offseason reshaping their defense through free agency. And a recent Bears on SI 2026 mock draft suggests that trend could continue in the NFL Draft.

In the three-round projection, Chicago uses three of its first four picks on defensive players. The Bears reinforce multiple levels of the defense before addressing the offensive line in the third round.

The approach reflects a growing expectation that the Bears will prioritize defense in April after two offseasons focused primarily on building the offense around quarterback Caleb Williams.

Here’s how the mock draft addresses Chicago’s biggest roster needs.

Bears Reinforce the Defensive Interior Early

One of Chicago's first priorities in this mock draft is strengthening the defensive line.

Enter Ohio State defensive tackle Kayden McDonald, who the Bears take with the 25th overall pick. McDonald is widely viewed as a powerful interior presence capable of anchoring against the run while also collapsing the pocket.

"McDonald doesn't have as high a ceiling as some of the other top defensive line prospects in this year's draft class, but I think he's the safest one," wrote Bears on SI's Peter Martuneac. "He is more likely, in my opinion, to live up to his pre-draft projections than, say, Peter Woods or Caleb Banks, and the Bears are still in a position where they can't afford to whiff with their first-round pick."

For the Bears, the addition would further reinforce a defensive line that already includes players like Gervon Dexter Sr. and newly signed veteran Neville Gallimore.

Adding a young defensive tackle early would also give Chicago another building block in the trenches as the team continues its defensive rebuild.

Bears Focus on Speed at Linebacker and Edge

Chicago’s defensive focus continues in the second round with two picks aimed at strengthening the front seven.

The Bears land Texas Tech linebacker Jacob Rodriguez at pick No. 57. Rodriguez plays with a high motor and high football IQ, traits that could make him an immediate contributor on defense or special teams.

Just three picks later, the Bears address the pass rush by selecting Penn State edge defender Dani Dennis-Sutton.

Dennis-Sutton is one of the more physically gifted edge defenders in the class. He'd bring length and explosiveness that could complement star pass rusher Montez Sweat.

"He stands six-foot-six, weighs 256 pounds, and boasts 33.5-inch arms, and he lit up the NFL Combine, proving himself to be an athletic freak," Martuneac wrote. "He may never be a dominant pass rusher on his own, but Dennis-Sutton would be a dangerous tool in Dennis Allen's defense."

Together, the two selections would inject youth and athleticism into Chicago’s defensive front.

Bears Address Offensive Line Depth

Despite the heavy defensive focus, this 2026 Chicago Bears mock draft still finds room to reinforce the offensive line.

In the third round, Chicago selects Iowa center Logan Jones at pick No. 89. Jones is known for his toughness and intelligence at the position; traits often associated with Iowa offensive linemen entering the NFL.

The selection would provide developmental depth behind veteran center Garrett Bradbury.

What the Bears' Mock Draft Reveals About Chicago’s Direction

The overall message from this mock draft is clear: The Bears could lean heavily toward defense in the early rounds of the 2026 NFL Draft.

Chicago has already made several defensive additions in free agency, including linebacker Devin Bush and safety Coby Bryant. Continuing that trend in the draft would help accelerate the team’s defensive rebuild.

If the Bears ultimately follow a similar blueprint, the 2026 draft could become another key step in building a defense capable of complementing their young franchise quarterback.
