Maxx Crosby Trade Could Happen This Week, Bears Among Teams Monitoring

Albert Breer reports a Maxx Crosby trade could happen this week, with the Bears listed among teams monitoring the Raiders star’s availability.

The Chicago Bears may not be aggressively pursuing a blockbuster, but their name is officially in the mix for Maxx Crosby. According to Albert Breer of Sports Illustrated, a trade involving Crosby could happen soon, possibly this week.

"I’d lean toward a Maxx Crosby trade happening, and maybe this week," Breer wrote. "But there’s going to have to be some needle-threading. I don’t think the Raiders want to go through the song-and-dance of shopping him, nor do I believe Crosby wants it advertised that he’s looking for suitors, given his bond with owner Mark Davis, and his view of himself as a Raider.

"We should know soon enough which path the Raiders are taking, with teams like Dallas, Chicago, Baltimore, Buffalo, New England, Philadelphia and the Rams keeping tabs on his availability."

That’s not a casual mention. It places the Bears among the teams closely monitoring a potential deal.

Why the Bears Would Make Sense as a Maxx Crosby Trade Suitor

Chicago already has a foundational edge rusher in Montez Sweat, but adding Crosby would immediately create one of the NFL’s most disruptive pass-rush duos.

Sweat led the Bears in sacks with 10 in 2025. Crosby had 10 sacks last season, too, in 15 games.

If general manager Ryan Poles believes the roster is close enough to contend, pursuing Crosby could signal an aggressive shift into a win-now mode.

Why a Maxx Crosby Trade Would Be Complicated for the Bears

Breer’s “needle-threading” comment is important.

The Las Vegas Raiders would likely seek premium draft capital for Crosby, who remains one of the league’s premier edge defenders. Chicago would need to balance compensation, contract structure, and long-term roster flexibility with the upside of adding Crosby to a defense that needs guys like him.

Any deal would likely require multiple premium draft picks (at least one, maybe two first-rounders) and potentially a young starter, a steep price for any franchise.

What This Means for the Bears This Week

Breer’s timeline is the headline. If the Bears trade for Crosby this week, Chicago will be all but out of any high-end free agency moves. Such a decision would signal a clear win-now pivot by Poles, but limit his ability to add depth on the open market.

The Bears have been disciplined in asset management during Poles' tenure. Entering a Crosby sweepstakes would represent a calculated deviation from their usual draft-first philosophy.

For now, the Chicago Bears are “keeping tabs.” But if Breer’s prediction proves accurate, the Bears could be forced to decide quickly whether they’re ready to swing big.
