The New York Jets and Tennessee Titans are reshuffling their defensive fronts.

According to Adam Schefter, the New York Jets are sending defensive end Jermaine Johnson to the Tennessee Titans in exchange for defensive tackle T'Vondre Sweat. The trade cannot be processed until the start of the new league year in March.

This is a rare young-for-young defensive swap.

Johnson has flashed edge-rushing upside since entering the league. He brings length and burst off the corner, and he played meaningful snaps during the Jets’ 2025 campaign. New York now pivots toward interior disruption.

Sweat gives the Jets a different defensive identity.

At over 340 pounds, Sweat anchors the middle and clogs rushing lanes. The Jets’ run defense struggled with consistency at times in 2025, particularly against downhill offenses. Adding a true space-eater changes gap math immediately.

For Tennessee, the motivation flips.

The Titans send interior mass to acquire edge pressure. Johnson offers pass-rush juice and outside versatility that Tennessee’s defense has lacked at times. If the Titans want to speed up opposing quarterbacks in 2026, Johnson fits that plan.

Financially, the move also signals strategic roster balancing.

Both players remain on rookie deals, which makes the financials an easy swap. This is a pure football deal.

The Jets are now positioned to select a pass-rusher with the No. 2 overall pick in the 2026 NFL Draft.
