Andy Reid’s Travis Kelce Update Hints Chiefs Are Planning for a 2026 Return

Travis Kelce’s 2026 status remains unresolved, but Andy Reid says communication is ongoing, and the Chiefs are moving forward like there’s a path to return.

Travis Kelce’s 2026 playing status is still the biggest domino hovering over the Chiefs’ offseason, and Andy Reid’s latest comments suggest Kansas City is operating like there’s a path forward.

Kelce is coming off a 2025 season of 76 catches for 851 yards and five touchdowns across 17 games. It wasn’t vintage, record-chasing Kelce, but it was still starter-level production and proof he can remain a high-volume option in the middle of the field when the offense needs him most.

What makes the situation fascinating is that nothing has been formally decided publicly, but Reid made it sound like this is less “goodbye” and more “let’s talk it through.”

“There is communication,” Reid said of talks with Kelce. “That's the main thing. I've said this before: As long as there's communication, I'm good. That means people want to move forward. I think that's where Travis is."

That’s a coach’s way of saying the door isn’t just open, it’s being held open.

“I'm not trying to put words in his mouth at all, and I try to give him some space here,” Reid added. “He's been doing this a long time, and he can sort all that out as he goes forward. But we're proceeding with that.”

Translation: the Chiefs are planning like Kelce could be back, while respecting that the decision is personal and timing matters.

From a roster-building perspective, Kelce’s presence changes everything: from targets, red-zone design, and third-down identity. Even at this stage of his career, his chemistry with Patrick Mahomes is still a cheat code. If he returns, the Chiefs can supplement him. If he doesn’t, they’re replacing a role that has defined their offense for a decade.

Either way, Reid’s message was clear: as long as Kelce is communicating, Kansas City believes there’s a real chance he’s not finished.
