4 reasons Bears fans should stay optimistic after tough Week 14 loss to Packers

The Bears may have fallen to the Packers in Week 14, but there are still several encouraging signs for Chicago’s season. Here are four key reasons fans should remain optimistic moving forward.

Things didn't go according to plan for the Chicago Bears in Week 14 against the Green Bay Packers.

Caleb Williams' dramatic second-half comeback was thwarted by an interception with less than 30 seconds remaining in the game, sending the Bears home to Chicago as 28-21 losers.

Now 9-4 and in second place in the NFC North, Bears fans have every right to feel bummed. But, unlike seasons past, there are plenty of reasons for Bears Nation to remain positive.

Of course, it's easy to say a 9-4 team should be upbeat. Let's face it, this is the first time the Bears will finish a season over .500 since 2018. But losing to the Packers in a game that felt very much like it was within reach still stings.

And when the loss was the result of one play -- a bad throw by the young franchise quarterback -- it stings even more.

But all isn't lost. Here are four reasons why Bears fans should be fired up for the rest of the season.

NEXT: Reason 1, the rematch

Bears vs. Packers, Part II

Indeed, the Chicago Bears fell victim to the ghosts of Lambeau Field in Week 14, but Soldier Field has its fair share of mystique, too. And the Packers will come to Chicago in Week 16 for the rematch.

Sure, the Bears must first overcome a difficult matchup against the Cleveland Browns in Week 15, but it's natural for eyes to begin to drift to that Saturday night primetime game against Green Bay, which, for all intents and purposes, could end up deciding who wears the NFC North crown at the end of the season.

Assuming Chicago's offense gets off to a faster start in the rematch, the Bears will have an excellent chance to win Part II. In fact, I'd be shocked if they didn't.

Week 14 was the tale of two halves. The Packers won the first half; the Bears won the second.

Chicago should carry that momentum into Week 16.

NEXT: Reason 2, the Bears earned respect

Chicago Bears already earned Packers' respect

Yes, that's right, Bears fans. The Green Bay Packers escaped Week 14 with a win, but perhaps more importantly, the Bears left Lambeau Field with the Packers' respect.

Sure, Bears Nation shouldn't care if the Packers respect this team. But it certainly isn't a bad thing. The Bears punched the NFC North bully in the mouth, and they took notice.

"You see what the head coach is preaching," running back Josh Jacobs said," you see how the guys is embodying that. Even on the field, like they straining a little bit more, they doing a little bit more. You could tell that they are believing in what he's preaching."

"Offensively, they took a big step," Jacobs continued. "And that's the thing that I see the difference in, is their mentality. They actually have a belief, more of a belief of a winning culture."

It's one thing for Bears players to say things like this. It's another for a star player on the Packers to say it.

The Bears are for real, and the rest of the NFL can feel it.

NEXT: Reason 3, Bears rookies are shining

Chicago Bears' rookie class is turning into something special

It's impossible to ignore the job that GM Ryan Poles did in the 2025 NFL Draft. The Chicago Bears have several rookies starring in this season's playoff run, beginning with their first-round pick, Colston Loveland.

Loveland was recently named one of Pro Football Focus's top-15 rookies in the NFL this season (he ranked No. 6). After what was a slow and disappointing start for the former Michigan star, Loveland now has 35 catches for 435 yards and four touchdowns. He's quickly become one of Caleb Williams' favorite targets.

Speaking of those favorite targets, second-round pick Luther Burden III is also emerging late this season. He, too, is on PFF's top-15 list (No. 11) and was fantastic serving as the Bears' WR1 against Green Bay. Rome Odunze missed the game with a foot injury.

Burden's arrival is happening a bit later than many Bears fans expected, but it's coming at the right time. His 2026 outlook will be through the moon.

Fellow second-round pick Ozzy Trapilo is now the Bears' starting left tackle (and playing well), and seventh-round running back Kyle Monangai is one of the most valuable players on offense.

So, yeah. Poles did work in the 2025 NFL Draft.

NEXT: Reason 4, Bears still control their own destiny

Despite loss to Packers, Bears still control their own destiny

Yeah, it sucks that the Bears didn't leave Green Bay with the win. But the best position any team can be in is when it controls its own destiny.

That's what the Bears have right now: total control.

But it won't be easy for the Chicago Bears to finish the 2025 season as a playoff team. They face the Cleveland Browns this Sunday, then a three-game gauntlet against the Packers, San Francisco 49ers, and Detroit Lions.

If Ben Johnson's squad goes 4-0, there's a good chance they'll be NFC North champs and a very high seed in the NFC playoffs.

So, yeah. Losing to the Packers isn't ideal, but if the Bears really belong in the playoffs this year, they'll prove it over the next four games.
