Chicago Bears quarterback Caleb Williams has been the target of attacks and criticism from various NFL media members this offseason. It's frustrating. In fact, for Bears fans who've been waiting a lifetime for a QB as talented as Williams, it's maddening.
The noise around Williams has grown louder after a clip of a boneheaded throw during the Bears' Family Fest practice made its rounds on X. Yes, it was a bad throw. It was an embarrassing throw. But it was hardly the only throw Williams has made during training camp.
Yet, you'd think it was.
Tweets like that -- suggesting it's time to call Caleb Williams a bust -- are not isolated to this one X user. Whether it's Dan Orlovsky or Colin Cowherd or insert your favorite hot-take champion here, Williams' critics have been full-throated in their attempt to get to the front of the "he's a bust!" line.
Smart football people still believe in Caleb Williams
Thankfully, there are analysts who have common sense and a high football IQ who can help silence that noise. At least, they can try to.
One of those analysts is ESPN's Louis Riddick, who joined Rich Eisen on the 'Rich Eisen Show' and waxed poetic about the "why" behind all the Caleb Williams criticism.
Check it out:
Analysts are human, and most humans want to be right. So, sure, if an NFL media guy thought Caleb Williams wasn't a can't-miss prospect during the 2024 NFL Draft, he's going to use these clips to support his narrative. And if we've learned anything over the last few years, it's that hate for the Chicago Bears clicks really well.
So, get used to it, Bears fans. The noise isn't stopping anytime soon. The only person who can silence it is Williams, and he won't be able to until Week 1 against the Minnesota Vikings.
