Washington Commanders star wide receiver Terry McLaurin has played his way into a new contract after enjoying a career year with Jayden Daniels in 2024.
McLaurin recorded 82 catches for 1,096 yards and a career-high 13 touchdowns, establishing himself as Jayden Daniels' most trusted target. Despite the Commanders adding Deebo Samuel this offseason, McLaurin remains the clear WR1 on the roster.
Now, he wants a new contract.
The Commanders signed McLaurin to a three-year, $68.6 million extension in 2022. With that deal expiring after the season, the 29-year-old now seeks long-term security.
According to ESPN's Jeremy Fowler, McLaurin is unhappy with how contract talks have gone, and a holdout is looking more likely by the day.
The Commanders are set to begin training camp on July 22 (veterans), giving the front office a little over two weeks to make things right with McLaurin.
Complicating matters for the team is the explosion of the wide receiver market, with six players now making over $30 million in average annual salary. Cincinnati Bengals superstar Ja'Marr Chase is the NFL's highest-paid receiver, earning $40.25 million per year.
Terry McLaurin's current contract ranks 16th in annual average salary. A pay raise of roughly $8 million per year would place him in the NFL's 10 highest-paid wideouts, which he certainly deserves.
