The Chicago Bears and GM Ryan Poles swallowed a massive slice of humble pie with the release of free-agent bust Nate Davis.
Davis signed a three-year, $30 million contract with the team in 2023. He's started only 13 games over the last two seasons due to a variety of injuries, and even when he was healthy, he was a turnstile.
Davis marks another notch in the growing list of missed evaluations by Poles, who's slowly creeping closer to joining Matt Eberflus on the hot seat. If it wasn't for the blockbuster trade that landed the Bears Caleb Williams in the 2024 NFL Draft, who knows what the narrative around the third-year general manager would be?
For now, I'm giving Poles credit for moving on. The worst thing a general manager can have is blind loyalty. Production on the grass is what matters most, and in the case of Nate Davis, there simply wasn't any.
