2025 NFL Mock Draft: Bears solidify EDGE position (NFL Draft)

The Chicago Bears spent the 2024 NFL Draft retooling their offense. General manager Ryan Poles utilized his pair of top-10 selections on quarterback Caleb Williams and wide receiver Rome Odunze. Third-round pick Kiran Amegadjie addressed the future of the offensive tackle position.

The defense (defensive line) was somewhat neglected as a result. The Bears roster a legitimate game-changer at the EDGE position in Montez Sweat but lack an appropriate running mate opposite. Sweat, a 2023 midseason acquisition from the Washington Commanders, led all Bears defenders in sacks last season with 6.0 quarterback takedowns (and 12.5 total sacks for his season).

Sweat's late-season surge didn't prevent the Bears from finishing 31st in sacks. That's precisely why Pro Football Network has the Bears focused on upgrading the EDGE position in their latest 2025 NFL Mock Draft. PFN has the Bears taking Texas A&M edge defender Nic Scourton with the No. 19 overall selection.

"Although the Chicago Bears added Austin Booker in the fourth round of the 2024 NFL Draft, the franchise will likely be looking to add a starting caliber pass rusher to play opposite Montez Sweat," Oliver Hodgkinson wrote.

Scourton is one of many potential blue-chip pass rushers heading into the 2024 college football season. The Bryan, Texas native recorded 10.0 sacks at Purdue last season, enjoying a breakout campaign for the Boilermakers. Scourton transferred to Texas A&M ahead of this season with designs of replicating that production on an even bigger stage. The Bears will certainly have him on their radar.
