Excitement builds as Caleb Williams takes practice field for first time as Bears’ starting QB
Chicago Bears quarterback Caleb Williams took to the practice field for the first time as a pro at the Bears rookie minicamp.
Caleb Williams was officially named the Chicago Bears starting quarterback on Friday before taking the field for the team’s first rookie minicamp practice.
Williams is a special dude worthy of being the rare player who gets the starting QB job before his first practice, and thanks to the Bears’ social media team, we caught a glimpse of him heading to that session.

Williams may already be the Bears’ starting quarterback, but he knows he has work to do before he becomes the team’s unquestioned leader. He spoke about it before hitting the field.

“To be a great leader, you have to learn how to follow first,” Williams said Friday. “So right now, I’m following all the vets, I’m following all the coaches. I’m listening, having both ears open and my mouth shut. I’m just kind of sitting back listening, and when I get to the point of when I learn everything when I learn the ways of how we do it with the culture, the playbook, and what the offensive line, the receivers, running backs and tight ends are all doing, then you can start taking the lead.”

Bears fans can’t help but be excited about the 2024 season. Remember: Chicago won five of its final eight games in 2023 and was already trending as a team on the rise. Now, with Caleb Williams and the other high-impact additions the team made on offense to complement its already top-five defense, the energy around this team is electric.
“We’ve always had positive energy in the building, but now I think it’s enhanced even more,” coach Matt Eberfllus said. “We’re excited about that. But we also understand it’s always going to be about hard work and it’s always going to be about passion for the game. We’re going to be rooted in those two things.”
