The Chicago Bears selected USC quarterback Caleb Williams with the first overall pick of the 2024 NFL Draft, bringing what Bears fans hope is an end of the franchise's century-long quarterback curse.
Williams was considered the consensus and obvious choice for the Bears at No. 1 overall since the moment they secured the pick at the end of the 2023 NFL season. A 33-game starter over the last three years, Williams finished the 2023 season passing for 3,633 yards, 30 touchdowns, and five interceptions. He was even better in 2022, the year he won the Heisman Trophy. He finished that season with 4,537 yards, 42 touchdowns, and five interceptions.
Simply put, Caleb Williams has been a living, breathing highlight reel since his first snap at Oklahoma.
The Chicago Bears paved the way for Williams to be their starting quarterback in 2024 after trading Justin Fields to the Pittsburgh Steelers for a conditional sixth-round pick in 2025. While Fields was far from a bust during his three seasons with the Bears, the simple truth is that Williams' upside is on a different tier than Fields'.
