The inevitable is becoming reality. According to a report from The Athletic's Adam Jahns, the Chicago Bears will host USC quarterback Caleb Williams on a pre-draft visit at Halas Hall during the first week of April. Perhaps most notably, the Bears will conduct Williams' pre-draft medical during the visit.
Williams declined an opportunity to undergo medical exams at the 2023 NFL Combine, becoming the first prospect in NFL history to deny teams a thorough medical check in Indianapolis. Instead, Williams decided to save that process for his pre-draft visits, one of which will occur in Chicago next week.
Williams' medical check is expected to go swimmingly. Williams appeared in 12 of 13 USC's games throughout the 2023 college football campaign. Williams even continued playing for the Trojans when the program fell out of postseason contention. He simply made a personal decision (good on him) to disallow teams to poke and prod him at the NFL Combine.
Williams' visit to Halas Hall is a formality. Bears general manager Ryan Poles is expected to select Williams with the No. 1 overall selection in the 2024 NFL Draft. That doesn't mean the Bears contingent won't continue doing their due diligence. They'll host Williams while gaining a better understanding of his leadership traits, how he interacts with employees in the building, etc. Poles and Co. previously met with Williams formally at the NFL Combine, and they also traveled in bunches to USC's Pro Day to watch Williams throw.
Williams' scheduled visit is another step toward him becoming the next franchise quarterback in Chicago.
