The Chicago Bears have requested permission to interview Seattle Seahawks offensive coordinator Shane Waldron for the team's vacant OC position, according to NFL Network's Tom Pelissero.

The Bears' interview request comes less than a day after the team fired Luke Getsy and virtually all of the offensive staff on Wednesday.

Waldron has served as the Seahawks' offensive coordinator since 2021 and, over the last three seasons, has had a critical role in Geno Smith's career resurgence.

Walrdon is a disciple of Los Angeles Rams coach Sean McVay. He served as the Rams' passing game coordinator in 2018 and the quarterbacks coach in 2019.

Matt Eberflus said Wednesday that he's looking for an offensive coordinator who's a "great teacher" and an innovator who can put players "in positions to succeed and get explosives and move down the field."

The Seahawks offense has been a productive one with Waldron calling plays, and there's a chance Seattle has identified him to replace Pete Carroll, who was relieved of his coaching duties by the Seahawks.

I assume Waldron won't be quick to accept an offensive coordinator position, assuming he has visions of becoming a head coach in the 2024 hiring cycle. But the NFL coaching carousel is unpredictable, and if the Chicago Bears can land Shane Waldron, it'd qualify as a win.
