WATCH: Montez Sweat says he's 'grateful' to be a Bear and 'ready to get to work'

That's when things changed for Matt Eberflus's defensive front. General manager Ryan Poles traded a 2024 second-round pick to the Washington Commaners for defensive end Montez Sweat.

Sweat joined the Commanders as a first-round pick in 2019 and has been a steady performer throughout his career. He's on pace for a career-high in sacks with 6.5 through eight games. His previous high watermark was nine in 2020.

Sweat met with the media on Wednesday and said he was grateful to be a member of the Chicago Bears and is hopeful that a long-term contract can be worked out. He also said he thinks he'll play in Sunday's Week 9 game against the New Orleans Saints.
