It's Tyson Bagent season in Chicago. Sort of.
If a season was one week long, then yes, it's Bagent season. The Bears earned their second victory of the year in Sunday's 30-12 win over the Las Vegas Raiders, and Bagent was a big reason why. He didn't stuff the stat sheet with 300 passing yards or multiple passing touchdowns, but his efficiency and command of the offense were impressive.
Perhaps Bagent's performance was exciting because of the frustrating parts of Justin Fields' game. Fields holds the ball too long and sometimes takes unnecessary sacks. Meanwhile, Bagent was on time and in rhythm with most of his passes, resulting in a quality all-around offensive output.
This isn't to say Bagent is better than Fields. The Bears are still Fields' team. But there's more pressure today on Fields to accelerate his development than before the Raiders game. That's life in the NFL.
Tyson Bagent completed 21-of-29 passes for 162 yards and one touchdown. No one will confuse him for Justin Fields as a runner, but Bagent did prove he can pick up first downs with his legs, too. He ran for 24 yards.
Next up for the Bears is a Sunday night date with the Los Angeles Chargers in Week 8. There's a chance Bagent will get the start, and if he has another good game in a winning effort, a full-blown quarterback controversy will ensue.
Until then, enjoy all of Tyson Bagent's Week 7 passes against the Raiders:
