Chicago Bears rookie wide receiver Tyler Scott was considered a bargain when he slid to the fourth round of the 2023 NFL Draft, and after the first couple of days of Bears training camp, Scott's proving he should've been picked much earlier.
Thursday was a showcase of Scott's speed, which was his trademark trait coming out of Cincinnati.
Check out this highlight from practice:
Scott can carve out a significant role on offense as a rookie. DJ Moore and Darnell Mooney are the top two receivers on the depth chart, and Chase Claypool should hold onto the WR3 role, at worst. But if he struggles during training camp (which reports Thursday suggest he did), Scott could find his way to the field much sooner than predicted.
“He's a tough dude that works really hard and when you have talent and you have those two things, really good things are going to happen,” offensive coordinator Luke Getsy said of Scott Thursday. “I think he's a guy who's putting that on display.”
Tyler Scott had an impressive final season at Cincinnati when he caught 54 passes for 899 yards and nine touchdowns. His game compares favorably to Tyler Lockett, and his after-the-catch skill set could be too valuable to keep off the field.
It's early, and rookies tend to hit a wall during training camp. But the more good practices Scott strings together, the better his chances become of being one of the NFL's more productive rookies in 2023.
