ESPN analyst and former NFL general manager Mike Tannenbaum sent shockwaves through the Chicago Bears universe when he suggested in the run-up to the 2023 NFL Draft that the Bears should trade Justin Fields and select Bryce Young with the No. 1 overall pick.
It was a ludicrous suggestion. Bears GM Ryan Poles confirmed its lunacy when he traded the first pick to the Carolina Panthers to support Fields by adding wide receiver DJ Moore and, eventually, a first-round right tackle (Darnell Wright).
And just when you thought Tannenbaum's ridiculous hot takes were over, guess again.
On Friday's episode of First Take, panelists were polled on which quarterback was the best in the NFC North. Opinions varied, but there's no denying Tannenbaum's was the worst. He gave the nod to Jordan Love, a quarterback with one start and 83 attempts in two seasons.
Watch for yourself:
The absurdity isn't because Tannebaum didn't choose Fields as his answer. Veterans Kirk Cousins (Vikings) and Jared Goff (Lions) have strong cases to rank ahead of Fields, who still has a lot to prove as a passer himself.
However, any suggestion that Love is anything above the fourth-best starting quarterback in the NFC North is silly. Inexperience alone should rank him at the bottom of the division.
Sure, by season's end, Love could prove his value. But he has to prove it before he can be the presumed next great Packers quarterback, which Tannenbaum suggested he will be.
I get it. Hot takes get ratings and clicks. Tannenbaum is doing a great job firing molten lava. But there's a great chance he will look like an idiot.
Chicago Bears fans are saving receipts.
