Quinn Meinerz contract extension could impact Chicago Bears, Teven Jenkins (News)

Chicago Bears offensive guard Teven Jenkins is entering a critical contract season. After a rocky start to his professional career at offensive tackle, Jenkins has since made a successful transition to guard. The second-round pick in the 2021 draft is already eyeing his next deal.

Jenkins was a solution at left guard for the Bears last season. He totaled 455 snaps at the position, earning stellar Pro Football Focus grades of 72.6 (overall), 71.7 (run blocking), and 68.6 (pass protection). Jenkins earned 276 reps at right guard as well following Nate Davis' injury, but the 2024 plan is for Jenkins to continue playing left guard.

Jenkins was credited with allowing just 17 quarterback pressures, and it's worth acknowledging Justin Fields was known to hold onto the football. Jenkins allowed 3.0 sacks, which tied for 30th-most in the league. He was only whistled for four penalties all campaign long.

The offensive line market has exploded this offseason, and another development on Tuesday evening may impact Jenkins' eventual negotiations with the Bears. The Broncos signed standout guard Quinn Meinerz to a massive four-year, $80 million extension, making him one of the highest-paid guards in the NFL. Meinerz's extension includes $45 million guaranteed.

Jenkins commented on the deal via social media.

It wasn't the first major dealing at offensive guard this offseason. The Carolina Panthers gave Robert Hunt a five-year, $100 million deal. Jonah Jackson got $17 million annually from the Los Angeles Rams via a three-year deal ($51 million total).

Jenkins' base salary is scheduled at $1.8 million for 2024, according to Spotrac. It's no wonder the former Oklahoma State product is monitoring the guard market closely. If Jenkins enjoys a career-best season, he'll be positioned to command at least $12 million per season via a lucrative multi-year deal.
