The Chicago Bears began the 2023 free agency period with the most money in the NFL under the salary cap, and they'll begin Day 2 still atop the list of teams with the most spending power.
The Bears were extremely busy Monday, signing four new starters, including Tremaine Edmunds (LB), TJ Edwards (LB), Nate Davis (OG), and Demarcus Walker (DL). Edmunds was the most costly signing at four years and $72 million, a new league-high for a four-year deal for off-ball linebackers, which helped rank the Chicago Bears second among teams that spent the most money on Day 1.
Get used to that. They could rank first by the end of Day 2.
The Bears still lead the NFL with over $50 million in salary cap space. The Atlanta Falcons rank second at $44.8 million. It drops even farther from there; the Arizona Cardinals are third at $32 million.
Here's the bottom line: If general manager Ryan Poles wants one of the big offensive tackles who remain unsigned, they'll be a Chicago Bear.
